Project Standards and Procedures

System Development Life Cycle

The team is to deliver the project by following the standard System Development Life Cycle, which consists of the following steps:

The last standard phase of Maintenance will not be included because the team's duties end with delivering the system to Emerald Webs. The system will be prototyped and the design and construction of the project will be repeated until a satisfactory deliverable is produced.

Several components of system design will not be included since they are not applicable to the development of this project. These components are:

Database Development Procedure

The customer database forms for adding, modifying and viewing records are to be developed utilizing a prototyping approach in Microsoft Access. Through an iterative process, the database system can be designed and presented to the customer until sign off is acquired. The team can present the intermediate design to the client by either delivering it to Emerald Webs on a disk or cd-rom, or by uploading it to a free storage facility on the Internet so that the client could assess it by downloading it to her computer. The database is to be backed up after each work session onto disk or cd-rom.

Web Site Development Procedure

The web site is to be developed utilizing a prototyping approach. Through an iterative process, the web site can be designed and presented to the customer until sign off is acquired. The web pages will be stored in the domain www.shopwarwickny.com. Both the development team and Emerald Webs have access to this domain. The web site is to be backed up after each work session onto disk or cd-rom.

Project Development Guidelines

All screens and forms are to be developed following good design guidelines and should have a consistent look and functionality. If reports are to be developed, they should be consistent in layout and color scheme. Database documentation should be thorough and utilize good design in selecting the appropriate text style and font.

Project Testing Guidelines

Once the project has been developed and the final design has been accepted by Emerald Webs, the system should be rigorously tested to assure it is fully functional and free of bugs. The database system will be tested by the web site development team (Linda J. Sampson), and the web site will be tested by the database development team (Donna Cummings and John Galdun). This will provide a fresh approach to each of the systems and deliver a higher level of quality control.
